Active Residence

The active residence is granted to people who wish to live and work in Andorra on a stable basis. There are two main modalities. In both cases, it is necessary to reside in the country for at least 183 days per year and comply with certain legal and administrative requirements.

Passive Residence

Passive residence allows to live in Andorra without working in the country. There are up to three different modalities that can be applied for, depending on the profile of the applicant.

Regrouping Residency

This type of residence allows direct relatives of a person already residing in Andorra to live legally in the country.

Active Residence

The active tax residence is aimed at people who wish to live and work in Andorra on a permanent basis. There are two main ways to obtain it:

Active self-employed residence

Designed for entrepreneurs, this modality allows them to reside in Andorra and develop a professional activity by creating a company in the country.

What does it allow?

  • Living legally in Andorra.

  • Create and manage a company based in the country.

  • Exercise an economic activity independently.

Main requirements:

  • Foreign investment authorization
    It is necessary to request and obtain authorization to invest in an Andorran company.
  • Incorporate a company in Andorra
    You must create a company in the country in which you hold more than 34% of the share capital.
  • Mandatory deposit with the AFA
    A deposit of €50,000 is required with the Andorran Financial Authority (AFA).
  • Effective residence in Andorra
    You must live in the country at least 183 days per year to maintain active residence and tax status.

  • Application form and official documentation
    You will need to complete several forms required by the Immigration Department.
  • Criminal Record Certificate
    Submit a clean criminal record certificate issued by the country of origin or last residence.

Active residence as an employee

Authorizes the applicant to reside and work in the Principality of Andorra on a permanent and effective basis by obtaining a permanent employment contract with an Andorran company.

What does it allow?

  • Establish yourself legally in Andorra with an employment contract.

  • Exercise a remunerated professional activity within the country.

  • Access to the Andorran public health system (CASS)

Main requirements:

  • Application form and official documentation

  • Regulatory fee
    You will be subject to the annual fee established by the Andorran Government for new residents who are employed by others.

  • Employment contract
    Have a permanent employment contract with a legally constituted company in Andorra.

Passive Residence

Passive residence permits allow physical residence in Andorra, but do not give the right to work.

There are up to three types of passive residence that can be applied for in Andorra

Non-profit

This type of residence allows you to live legally in Andorra without working or exercising professional activity in the country.

What does it allow?
  • To reside legally in Andorra without exercising economic activity.

  • Bring dependents.

  • Benefit from tax advantages and quality of life.

    Main requirements:
  • Minimum stay of 90 days per year in Andorra.

  • Minimum investment of 600,000 € in Andorran assets (real estate, shares, deposits…).

  • Refundable deposit at the AFA: €50,000 for the holder + €12,000 per dependant.

  • Private medical insurance valid in Andorra.

  • Clean criminal record certificate.

  • Proof of sufficient financial means, generally stable income or assets covering at least 300% of the Andorran minimum annual salary for the applicant and an additional 100% for each dependent person.

  • Owning or renting a home in the Principality.

For professionals with international projection

This residence is aimed at people who work remotely or manage international businesses and who seek to establish their tax domicile and habitual residence in Andorra, without the need to carry out direct economic activity in the territory.

Main requirements:
  • Predominant international activity: At least 85% of the professional or commercial activity must be carried out outside Andorra.

  • Minimum stay in Andorra: The resident must actually live in the country for a minimum of 90 days per calendar year.

  • Demonstrable economic solvency: It is necessary to prove a stable and sufficient income to cover the cost of living in Andorra without the need to work locally.

  • Refundable deposit with the Andorran Financial Authority (AFA):

    • 50,000 for the principal applicant.

    • An additional €12,000 for each person reunited.

  • Private medical insurance valid in Andorra for the duration of the residency.

  • Certificate of criminal record from country of origin and previous residences, when applicable.

  • Domicile in Andorra: Accreditation by means of a rental or property contract.

For reasons of scientific, cultural or sporting interest

It is intended for people who wish to establish their residence in Andorra without exercising a direct local economic activity.

According to current legislation, they may apply for it:

  • Internationally recognized athletes, artists or professionals.

  • Individuals who are under the regulatory quota established by the Government.

  • Those who establish their principal and effective residence in Andorra for at least 90 days a year.

Those who provide at least 85% of their 85% of their services outside Andorra.

Main requirements:
    • International professional activity: at least 85% of the services must be rendered outside Andorra.

    • Minimum stay of 90 days per year in Andorran territory.

    • Accredited economic solvency, with stable and sufficient income.

    • Deposit refundable to the AFA:

Residence for reunification

This permit allows immediate family members of a person already legally residing in Andorra to establish residence in the country, thus facilitating cohabitation and family unity.

Main requirements:

  • Domicile in Andorra: It must be accredited with a rental contract or title deed where the family will stay.

  • Sufficient financial resources:

    • The resident must have a minimum income equivalent to 100% of the annual minimum wage.

    • An additional income of 50% of the annual minimum wage is required for each adult to be reunified and 30% for each minor.

  • Private medical insurance: Full coverage for each reunited member, valid throughout the Andorran territory.

  • Official medical report: Persons to be reunited must undergo a medical examination in Andorra.

  • Criminal Record Certificate: Mandatory for adults, issued by the countries where they have resided for the last five years.

  • Documentation proving the family relationship: Certificates of marriage, birth, guardianship, etc., duly legalized or apostilled.
